Apricot hargrand (Prunus armeniaca).
Originating from Canada, this fairly new variety is renowned for its extreme hardiness. Produces heavy yields of deep orange-red fruits that are ‘freestone’ (the flesh comes away from the stone easily). The fruit is ready for eating between July and August.
It is grown on St Julien A rootstock for an ultimate (un-pruned) height of 3.65 – 4.6 metres. It is self fertile – but pollination by another apricot will maximise yield. It has extremely good disease resistance and is not prone to leaf curl.
